Introduction

Gennavie Johnson:

RYT-500, E RYT-200, and RCYT Instructor

Genna has been a yoga instructor in Orange County since 2017, with a particular focus on children’s yoga education. She also teaches well-rounded adult yoga classes for students of all levels, from gentle and restorative to advanced vinyasa.

Genna's kids classes are lively and fun. She has taught kids from ages 18 months to 18 years. She has been working with children for over 10 years and uses her background in child development to tailor each class to the student’s developmental level. Her younger kids classes incorporate imagination, creativity, and play, while her tween and teen classes focus more on self concept, introspection, and resilience.

Both Genna's kids and adult classes are centered around self-compassion and turning inward. Through a combination of Classical Surya Namaskar, Ujjayi Pranayama, and meditative savasana, Genna's vinyasa flow classes leave practitioners feeling simultaneously relaxed and rejuvenated.

In Genna's non-yoga life, she is pursuing her licensure to become a professional children’s therapist and LMFT. If Genna were a Venn diagram, she would exist at the center of three circles: yoga, the study of mental health/trauma, and working with children. She has conducted research on the intersection of these three fields, specifically in yoga's unique ability to build resilience and grit in those affected by trauma. In the future she hopes to develop a play-based, trauma-informed, yoga therapy program for children that can be used by anyone who works with kids.

Level 1-2:

These classes build greater strength, flexibility, and stamina, while still providing thorough instruction and options. Students will be exposed to subtler concepts within the practice, stronger and more challenging flow sequences, and begin learning more advanced poses including basic arm balances, backbends and inversions.
