Acupuncture or electroacupuncture uses the drugless approach to correct imbalances such as anxiety, stress, low energy, insomnia, hemorrhoids and pain. Traditional Chinese acupuncture explanation is that energy channels, called meridians, resemble free-flowing rivers that irrigate and nourish the body tissues. The water is the life force called “qi” that is the essence of our wellbeing. Any obstruction in the movement of the “qi” within these meridians is like a dam that is backed up, creating blockages or stagnation. These blockages therefore create imbalances in the body’s digestion, absorption, energy production activities and in the circulation of the energy throughout the meridians. The acupuncture needles can stimulate the body’s “de qi,” a composite of unique sensations essential during the acupuncture treatment, and thus unblock the obstruction at the dams to reestablish the free-flowing energy of the meridians.
